Ed Bussey - CEO of Oxford Science Enterprises
Episode 8 with Ed Bussey

Welcome to the 8th episode of Oxford+. This one really sticks to the bill of “busting myths” as we interview Ed Bussey, the new CEO of Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE).
As you may know, or have learned from previous episodes, OSE is the largest spin out Fund globally. It has invested over £1Bn into Oxford spin outs and bought in over £1Bn more from co-investors.
This success story has not been without its controversies. Myths abound ranging from bad Founder experience to crowding out of other investors. This interview gave Ed the platform to address these head on – and in fairness he took up the opportunity with enthusiasm.
I enjoyed the conversation, and found Ed to be an open and warm interviewee. Now I, and the wider ecosystem, will watch with interest as the largest single investor in Oxford adapts itself for the future.
I left cautiously optimistic and with Ed’s plea at the end ringing in my ears:
“I am candid in what I say, I'm also very open and approachable on feedback and I really encourage anyone who, if there are any missteps on our part or issues…just call me. Come and tell me. I'm interested to understand where can we do better? What could we do differently? I am just interested in building something incredible and the more I can learn from where we're getting things wrong, as well as things right, the more likely we can be successful.” - Ed Bussey
I hope you enjoy the episode and find it informative. On a related note we are starting to plan for Series 2 and I too would welcome feedback. Please let me know anyone you particularly want us to speak to or areas to explore.
With thanks,
Susannah
